General Information

The workshop will occupy one full day of the International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium IPDPS'2005. There will be no separate registration for the workshop. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE CS Press (a CD-ROM with a printed abstracts book).

Scope

In the recent years, computing with visual and multimedial data has emerged as a key technology in many areas. However, the creation, processing, and management of these data types require an enormous computational effort, often too high for single processor architectures. Therefore, this fact taken together with the inherent data parallelism in these data types makes image processing, video processing, and multimedia natural application areas for parallel and distributed computing.

This workshop brings together practitioners and researchers working in all aspects of parallel and distributed computing in these fields. The workshop will serve as a forum for exchange of novel ideas on corresponding hardware developments, software tools, system solutions, and all types of applications. There is more information available on the workshop series PDIVM, e.g. concerning previous issues like PDIVM'00 in Cancun, PDIVM'01 in San Fransisco, PDIVM'02 in Fort Lauderdale, or PDIVM'03 in Nice.

The workshop aims to act as a platform for topics related, but not limited, to
• Parallel and distributed architectures and algorithms
• Dynamically reconfigurable architectures, FPGAs
• Parallel DSP systems and Media processors
• Embedded Multimedia
• Application specific parallel architectures
• Languages, software environments and programming tools
• Parallel and distributed video and multimedia servers
• Networked multimedia systems, QoS techniques
• Applications, e.g. remote sensing, medical imaging, satellite image processing, set-top boxes, HDTV, mobile multimedia, computer graphics, virtual reality, cameras

Special Sessions

• "Programming Models for Multimedia Cluster and Grid Computing" (organized by Dr. Frank J. Seinstra, Intelligent Sensory Information Systems, Faculty of Science, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and on
• "Hardware and Software for Embedded Multimedia" (organized by Dr. Subramania Sudharsanan, Queen's Univ., Canada).

Individuals wishing to organize additional special sessions are welcome and should contact the organizers.

Schedule

Papers due:	November 15th, 2004
Author notification:	December 20th, 2004
Camera-ready final papers due:	January 21st, 2005
Workshop (and IPDPS):	(April 4th -) April 8th, 2005

Submission and Proceedings

Submissions for PDIVM 2005 should be extended abstracts about 4 pages long using the IEEE Proceedings Style (extended abstract). Final versions will be restricted to 8 pages. Please submit your paper in postscript or pdf format to the address uhl AT cosy.sbg.ac.at and use the subject PDIVM submission. Submissions for the special session should be sent to fjseins AT science.uva.nl.

Accepted papers will be published by IEEE CS Press on a CD-ROM (with a printed abstracts book) covering the IPDPS workshops.
